My name is Naye and I’m a control freak.

Filed under: Work Woes — Naye @ 6:37 am

As I was driving home from work yesterday talking on the phone about being kicked out before I could finish straightening up my department, I realized something. I’m a control freak.

I work in the soon to be gone layaway department. It’s not a tough job. People bring you items, you ring them up on the register, box them, tag them, bin them, record where you binned them, take payments on the items, then retrieve them when the people pay them off. Simple, right? WRONG! There are two full time layaway associates and three layaway positions. For the third position, they just send back any cashier to fill in. Most of them don’t know what they’re doing and don’t really care. Add to this the fact that we only have a store operator 3-11PM 5 days a week. The other days, the layaway person plays operator (which means I’m full time morning operator btw).

I literally dread coming to work after there are cashiers in my department. I had to explain to a customer why their item was lost for the first time a couple of days ago, and yesterday, someone got home with a different type grill than they had put into layaway. The grill I believe was the fault of the person working in the garden center. I’m betting they said, “Oh. A $200 grill. Must be this one!” and picked the wrong one. However, the layaway associate should have checked the UPC number to make sure it was the right item before binning it!

I’ve complained and been told over and over “Layaway is ending soon.“ So that means it doesn’t have to be done right? Logically, I know I should just do my job, and not worry about the mistakes other people are making, but it drives me completely insane. If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. It’s making me crazy that this isn’t being done right and I can’t work 24/7 to do it all!

The New Poll

Filed under: Other Nonsense — Naye @ 10:26 pm

I asked a friend what they were up to today and he said searching for his razor that had somehow gotten lost.  I said, “I have two.  You can have one.  Come over to get it and I’ll even shave you!”  To my surprise, he said okay.  I had asked my ex before and he flat told me there was no way on earth he would allow me to shave him.  Now I’m asking you all, would you allow your SO to shave you?

(Btw, the friend never showed up so I suppose he is still unshaven.)

    hey,

give me a address, and during my next drive around the country break, ill drive there and let you shave me….even with a straight razor….i just love to sit back in terror(or delight) in the thrill of anticipation of having a baby butt smooth face/head/back/chest…or dare i say it….full body shave.

although ive only met you in game…i trust you. and speaking of control freak…have you never worked at your local county / state / federal jail/prison yet? im a correction officer in texas state.

    p.s. where is barhug?

  2. Comment by Naye — September 29, 2006 @ 4:35 pm

Nope. Haven’t worked for a jail/prison; however, I have kids. Does that count?

I’m not sure where Barhug is. I’ve looked in IRC for him and Mara, but can’t seem to catch either of them on. =/ Probaby my work hours. =(

maybe the difference is that your friend other than your ex is kinda confident you wont slit his throat shaving him claiming to the cops it was a shaving acccident

  4. Comment by Barhug — October 1, 2006 @ 11:28 pm

Should I be worried that your train of thought jumped tracks from correctional facilities to me, Xzanth? heh

Sorry I haven’t been around much. Been busy with other things and not on the comp a whole lot. I say yes to the shaving. Shows trust, but then again if your SO is prone to giggle fits then that might not be a good idea.

Homecoming mums.

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 10:11 pm

Are these really just a Texas thing?  I mentioned making them in guildchat tonight and the reaction was, “Huh???”  For homecoming, girls wear a mum flower that has backing on it and all kinds of foo foo, streamers, bells, etc.  They fasten onto a girl’s shirt.  Girls (and guys) can also wear garters on their arms.  (I know.  Garters are not meant to be worn there, but it’s the truth.)  This year, I found a place that was selling wristlets.  I liked ‘em so I bought a plain one and decorated it for Vanessa.  Likewise, I went with premade garters this year for E and Nessa’s bf.  You can see pics on my flickr.

I think the mums may be a Texas thing, but I’ve seen similar things on girls when I was in high school.

Princess Vanessa

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 4:41 am

My daughter’s boyfriend asked her to the prom…and she promptly told him she didn’t want to go. Being the smart fellow he is, he asked her cousin, who promptly said, “I’m not going with you, but I’ll make Vanessa go!” She came home, told her mom, who called me, and we all three began working on Vanessa - who gave in and decided she’d go to the prom.

The next feat, getting her to pick out a prom dress. We flipped through Seventeen magazine and she found some dresses she liked…for $500 and up. I don’t know if you all know this or not, but I’m poor. I work at WM!!! $500 is a bit too much for a dress, but that’s okay. We had an idea of what she wanted and if all else failed, we’d piece out the materials and make the dress.

Sunday, my aunt, my mom, both my sisters, my niece, Vanessa, and I all went prom dress shopping. They’re talking about having the prom in February this year and knowing how picky my daughter is (and how limited my budget is), I figured we’d better get started ASAP. The first stop, Dillard’s Outlet. They had TONS of formal dresses all marked down to anywhere from $15-$75. I was thrilled! …until I realized they only had one princess type dress like she wanted and it was not only a size 12, but also peach - not a color she likes. She was a trooper and tried on a dozen or so other dresses (she HATES to shop just like her mom). Of course I knew good and well she had an idea in her mind of what she wanted and nothing else would do. It’s the same way I am…and why I started shopping so early.

After that, we hit tons of dress shops. Vanessa is short like me (actually, she’s now an inch taller at 5’). We made her try on some little girl’s dresses and they actually fit, except for the chest. Little girls are not supposed to have one, but my daughter does. Back to the women’s sizes that were all WAY too long and most were in BIG sizes. We all knew she wanted a turquoise princess style dress with beadwork on the bodice…but finding one wasn’t easy.

Finally, the last shop we hit, they had the perfect looking dress hanging on the ceiling. We made them take it down, but it was a size 11. My daughter wears a size 2. The salesperson said, “We’ll do the alterations free! It’s last year’s model and it’s half price.” She tried it on and her face lit up. I knew she was in love. “How much is it?” $225 with tax and all. For a dress. That will be worn one time. ARGGG!!!

Suddenly, I flashed back to my senior year of high school. I worked from the time I was 12 on, but stopped for a little bit my senior year. The senior activities were taking up a lot of time and my grades were slipping so I decided to give up work to ensure I’d get a scholarship. I knew there was no other way I’d get into college. I didn’t go to my junior prom, but was going to go with a group of friends to my senior prom that year. We tried on dress after dress after dress, and finally I found one I liked. My mom said, “Nope. Can’t have that one. It costs too much.” That was it. The only dress I wanted. I couldn’t pay for it because I wasn’t working and I didn’t find anything else that I wanted. I didn’t go to my prom.

“We’ll take it” suddenly came out of my mouth. My shopping party looked at me as if I were nuts, but my daughter looked at me as if I were the greatest mom on earth. As the day went on, I began to panic. Got home though and a net friend called me princess. I called him on it (as I do when anyone calls me a term of endearment) and he said, “Every female should be a princess to someone.” I said, “Heh. Not me.” and thought, but you are right and my daughter found that out today.

Though you never went to prom, I did. I’ve always regretted it. It’s still leaves a sour taste in my mouth when I think about it. I can only but hope and pray that it shall be different for your daughter. They gave us little disposable cameras for our prom. I’m glad I never took any pictures with it. :P *huggles*

Morbidity

Filed under: Friends and Relationships, Family Funhouse — Naye @ 6:57 pm

As most of you know, my cousin died not to long ago. During that time, it was discovered that the funeral plots my mom, aunt, and uncle thought they had for all our family members weren’t actually kept. They had not been properly marked. Apparently this cemetery gives away free plots. They ask that you mark them and make contributions to help with the upkeep. The expense comes when breaking the ground for actual use.

My aunt was lucky, in that the plots the family wanted were still untouched. After the funeral, she and my mom went to mark off the plots they believed they had to start with. When my mom got back that day, she was telling my sisters and me, “We got 8 plots. That’s one for both of us and one for each of you kids. Since we figure the boys won’t use theirs, it’ll give one for Todd, Alex, (my brother-in-laws) and ….”

I finished her sentence, “For Renee to gain 700 lbs, become one of those shut ins, and require a specially built over sized casket that will take up two plots?”

“NO! For whoever you meet.”

“Ahhh…so like any person I meet could be buried next to me?”

“Hush! You could still meet a knight in shining armor!”

“Mom, that’s a fairy tale. Have you not been following my life story?”

“It could happen.”

“Do you even know one person that thinks the way I do? Male or Female. Married or not.”

“Well, no…”

At that point, my sisters stepped in and changed the topic like I’m doing now by talking about how we need to go out and mark plots for our families. Sounds like a really fun day though so we’ve been saving it for another time.

Did you ever see the movie Friends With Money? Sometimes, I can identify with the woman that doesn’t wash her hair. (Only there’s no way on Earth I’d stop washing my hair! EWWW!!!!)

Fairy tales are meant to come true. :P But you need to work at it. *is quite jealous of two of his friends* I still have hope! Hope is what keeps the bad thoughts away. :P :) I have my own plot. :) Dad and mom have one next to my grandma’s here. Dad has another one for himself (even if he’s not being buried there he wants a stone to signify being part of the family plot) in Iowa. Personally though I don’t like my plot. I want to be buried like near a tree or under a brae. Somewhere nice and shady yet gives a nice view of the surrounding area so it’d need to be somewhat high up. Want the rain to beable to fall upon my cold little plot too. Don’t mind if the tree blocks out a lil or the brae causes runoff to the sides that’s ok. If failing all that, I think it’d be neat to be stuffed and kept by somebody. But it’d haveto be somebody that like… didn’t want to use my orifices for anything… *huggles*

I didn’t realize Tickle Me Elmo was still popular, I guess he’s got lasting appeal? =)

Why is Wal-Mart closing the layawy department … is that in all stores?

  2. Comment by Naye — September 22, 2006 @ 6:00 pm

This is the new TMX Tickle Me Elmo. He’s the new and improved Elmo. He moves in addition to laughing. That’s worth $40 isn’t it? I want to print out Grover’s Story so everyone will realize how evil Elmo really is.

Because they’re not making enough profit from it to justify keeping it open.

    ELMO

If my niece was older, I’d totally get her one, if only to drive my sister and bro-in-law insane.

Once Upon A Dream

Filed under: Music, Movies & More, Family Funhouse — Naye @ 10:29 pm

Some of you may remember a couple years ago when I teased on the Krieger boards that I was holding out for the man that knew the words to Once Upon A Dream.  That’s when we discovered that mojo is the king of musicals.

Some of you may remember a year or so ago when there was a WoW guild discussion about what songs were on our play list.  I announced that Once Upon A Dream was playing for me at that moment.  I expected a lot of replies of “What?” and some giggles.  I was shocked to find out that not only did several women in the guild know the song, but a few men did as well.

Today, I picked up Vanessa and Charlea (my niece) from volleyball practice.  Charlea announced, in between giggles, that Vanessa had been singing ‘opera’ loudly in the hallway of the school.  What song did she pick to sing in her ‘opera’ voice?  You guessed it!  Once Upon A Dream!

I love it when I find proof that my children actually do listen and retain some of the things I torture them with!!!

Congrats Trin and Xano!!!

Filed under: Other Nonsense — Naye @ 6:24 pm

Today was on par with the last week.  Too many people wanting too much stuff, not to mention everyone complaining.  I get the joy of playing operator while working now.  Meaning, if people call angry, guess who talks to them first.

When I left work, it was raining horribly.  I decided to make a mad dash for the truck because it wasn’t letting up.  Some woman almost ran over me though because she couldn’t see where she was going.  By the time I finally got to my truck, my clothes were sticking to me, my hair was dripping water, and my shoes were squishing!

It’s okay though. I found out I now have Sundays and Mondays off.  Since I was already there this morning though, I have Monday and Tuesday off…so today was my Friday.  I got to talk to Gabby on the way home and then Drunkenlight told me that Trin and Xano had their baby!!  Kelsi is 8 lbs 2 oz - and proof that gamers do more than just sit around playing games!

Maybe this day isn’t so bad afterall.

Thought this was funny - my horoscope for the day:

You are going to have to deal with a few too many people who want a little bit too much from you, but the good news is that you will eventually be able to say no to them without flinching.

  2. Comment by Delostacia — September 18, 2006 @ 12:28 am

I like the rain… it’s relaxing. I generally walk through it unless it’s really cold or I need to go somewhere important like a meeting or a wedding, etc. When I die and have a funeral I want it to rain dag nabit. Mmmm clothing sticking to woman. lol… :P :) Hope you have a better week and a nice weekend since yours is kind of starting. :P :)
