Ethan’s Bad Day
The other day, I got Ethan’s report card in the mail. He had a 66 in Science. I was livid. I stormed into the house, called him out of his room, handed him the report card, and told him to start explaining. He kind of grinned and looked at the report card. Suddenly, his grin turned into a horrible look and I knew he had no idea about that failing grade. He probably thought I was talking about his B’s. I backed off immediately and told him we needed to talk to his teacher and find out what happened.
A little later, I was in the den and Ethan comes in with his report card in hand. He takes one look at me and the tears started falling. I hugged him and pulled him into my lap. For a little while, I was holding my baby again while we both cried. It didn’t last long though. I told him that Vanessa and Cody (the boyfriend) were going to be home soon so he tried to stop the tears. He gave up, got a blanket, and curled up on the sofa in the den.
When Vanessa came in, she realized he was there and knew something was wrong. She thought he didn’t feel good. I was trying to motion to her to hush, but it didn’t work. She was worried. Finally, I just whispered what the deal was. Instead of leaving him alone, she decided to try to make him feel better. “It’s okay Ethan. It won’t affect you getting into college! If you’re going to fail, now’s the time to do it before you get into high school!” Boy that helped. =/ Then Cody started, “I was bad at science too, man.” Ethan said, “I had a 90 in there. I’m not bad at science!”
After more embarrassment for Ethan, they finally decided to go watch a movie. Apparently though, Vanessa busted a bottle of finger nail polish and didn’t know it. The polish dried on the floor with the broken glass all in it. Ethan stepped right on it and sliced his foot right at the bend under his big toe. We liked to have never got it to stop bleeding. I thought I was going to have to take him to get stitches. We loaded up the kids, took them to my mom’s to bandage it up and she took him to the doc the next day. Found out he also had strep throat and an ear infection.
I’m happy to say that with lots of rest and plenty of screaming from me for him to stay off his feet, he’s feeling much better now. We still don’t know about the grade though. I emailed his teacher, but haven’t heard back. Ethan keeps saying, “Maybe I can do a make up paper or something.” He’s not wanting to understand that he cannot change that grade. The good news is, I’m sure this was a kick in the pants if he needed one. He’ll most likely be very careful to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Hi Ethan! Hi Naye!
66 in Science? That totally beat my 44 in Math way back in the day. I think I’m the only Asian person who sucks at math. And science.
