Decked Out

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 4:04 pm

The parents came over and we planned out the deck we’re going to build beside the house for the pool we got last summer.  It’s an above ground pool so we’re not going to make anything elabrate, but it’s still going to cost in the $500 range without including the price of railing which I’ll add later.  The good thing is I got $200 worth of Lowes gift cards for Christmas.  =D  I knew I wanted the deck built so I asked for the gift cards to help rather than other gifts.  Once it’s done, I’ll post pics.  It’ll be a while yet.  I have a 10% off coupon so I am buying as much as I can now, but it’ll be spring break before we can work on it.  I plan to take pictures to send to everyone that got me a gift card to show them what they got me for Christmas.

As It Turns Out

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 3:11 am

I ended up making all A’s last semester.  Now I’m on to the second semesters of history and government and Psych Lifespan class.  Oddly enough, I have to write a 9 page Psych paper with 20 references for a Lifespan class and I just can’t come up with a good solid subject I want to write about. =(  If you have any great ideas, I’m all ears!  I already had to write a 3 page paper on “Do we marry our parents?”.

Ethan is taking algebra this semester.  One more year of HS for him and he’ll be off to college.  TBF has applied to a pharmacy school.  His references came in too late to apply to all but one school; however, he is applying for the other schools as soon as they start taking applications again.

Other than school stuff and work, not much going on.  I’m bored out of my mind tonight.  Can’t sleep.  TBF is in Abilene and I can’t even find people to chat with.  Does no one IM anymore?

I’m a B.

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 7:55 pm

That’s right.  I’m a B.  I took my history test and scored an 80.  Of course we get to take them twice so the first try I just answered questions off the top of my head.  I then went back and used the book to make a 100 on my second try.  =/  In English, my first quiz was a 86.  EIGHTY-SIX!  She took off for spelling, grammer, and punctuation.  I guess I’m going to have to start using short sentences and make sure to spell check and copy paste into the form. =(  I thought for sure I’d do better in Literature.  Everything else (discussions, journals, etc) I’ve made perfect scores on.  Friday will be my first Government test.  I’m scared.  He requires all his tests to be proctored. Doesn’t the word proctored just sound like a violation? It’s not a coincidence it shares so much with the word Proctology.

School Naye

Filed under: Work Woes — Naye @ 8:54 pm

That’s right.  I’ve finally done it.  I”m taking three online classes at my local community college.  Thankfully, my grant pays for it. =D  I’m a bit nervous and trying to learn to study, but it’s hard when your instructor won’t even post your lessons in a timely manner. =/

What a Work Week

Filed under: Work Woes — Naye @ 9:29 pm

Earlier this week, I had a fellow call and ask how much  one 100% viagra was.  I asked, “100mg?”  He said yes and I gave him the qoute of just over $20.  A couple hours later, he called again and I happened to answer the phone again.  “How much is one 100% viagra.”  Once again I asked if he meant mg and gave him the quote.  He then asked how much for the 50% viagra.  I corrected him again and gave him a price of just under $20.  He said, “For 50%?”  and hung up on me.  I guess he was mad that a half viagra costs just as much as a whole one.

Today, some elderly lady came up to the counceling window in her scooter.  I heard her ask the pharmacist “Where can I get this analyzed?”  The pharmacist stepped away and asked a co-worker to help her out.  The lady then showed the co-worker what she wanted analyzed - a piece of poop wrapped in a paper towel.

On my way home from work, the lady in the bakery stopped me.  She looked a little shocked as she said, “Someone ate one of the graduation display cupcakes.” That’s right.  Someone ate a cupcake that had been sitting out for weeks with a big sign explaining it was a display.  All that was left was crumbs and the little decorative piece.  I keep expecting to see them show up at the pharmacy for food poisoning.

Long Squirrely Week

Filed under: Work Woes — Naye @ 10:57 pm

It’s been a long couple of weeks actually and I have more stories to tell, but I’m tired tonight and wanted to post something quick.  Therefore you’re getting the Squirrel story.

On the way to work, one of our cashiers hit a squirrel.  She stopped, backed the car up, picked up the squirrel, and brought it to work where she placed it in the freezer of the break room.  That’s right folks.  She put it in the fridge with everyone’s lunches…so that she could take it home later to make stew.

If that’s not bad enough, another lady there said, “I can’t believe she would do that!  It’s the wrong season for squirrel.  They have mites and such still right now.”

I can’t tell you when squirrel season is or how to make squirrel stew.  I can, however, tell you that bringing road kill to work is apparently an acceptable practise because she did not get fired.  As for me, I do not eat in the break room any more.

LOL! I guess one benefit of roadkill is you don’t have to worry about picking the shotgun pellets out, but I dunno how you prepare a squashed squirrel that’s been frozen …

Please Seek Shelter

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 6:57 pm

Twice today, we got to seek shelter in the back of WM.  It’s the torando time of year for us and they’re going crazy.  The first time wasn’t so bad, but the second time…argg.  We were in TLE with the young cashier.  She’s 18, but talking to her, you’d think she were 13.  The more nervous she got, the more she talked.  I finally just ignored her, letting the customers in there with us take the full force of her rambling.  Poor people will probably stay clear of WM during storms now.  =/

While all this was going on, a manager came over and said, “The storm’s right over your place.”  I texted Ethan asking where he was and to make sure he was covered and watching the news.  He texted me back, “I’m swimming in the pond.”

. . .

I picked up the phone and called.  He answered, “Kohl’s mom picked me up.  They’re electricity is out so we’re going to Kaufman.”

. . .

Why would you want to get in the car and drive to town during a storm with hail and tornados????  I told him to watch the weather and that I wasn’t teasing.  Tornados touched town in two of the little towns near us.  He said he would.  Now I’m waiting for him to get home.

This is one of those times when I think to myself that the mother’s curse better work.  He’d better have kids just like him to put him through this kind of torture!

Atypical Monday

Filed under: Music, Movies & More, Family Funhouse — Naye @ 7:20 am

The pharmacy was closed for Easter Sunday so, as expected, Monday was a bugger.  The woman who opened is too slow and doesn’t want to work.  She didn’t finish up all the tasks she’s supposed to before we opened - meaning we were behind all day.  No one likes long wait times.  People like long wait times followed by your prescription still not being done even less.  That’s what was happening since troubleshoot wasn’t worked.  If there was an issue with a prescription, it went in line behind all the other issues that hadn’t been taken care of. =/

We were short handed since we have someone on vacation, but then the noon person called in running an hour late.  Lunches were late, cigarette breaks were missed, people were grouchy, customers were loud, and I was mentally creating a resume for the next job.

Then my sister called to inform me that our dad had another heart attack.  This one makes number six or seven.  I can’t remember.  She said he was stable, but told her he was going to refuse any further treatment or surgeries.

Back to work and we had a code black - weather warning.  A tornado had touched down not far from our store.  Everyone had to go to the back of the store.  We stayed there for about fourty-five minutes.  When we got back, people expected their prescriptions to have magically been done by the W-M elves I guess.  I kept repeating to them, “We were all in the back of the store for the weather warning.  I know we told you fourty-five minutes, but there was noone here to work on your prescription.  Give us a few minutes and we’ll get it out for you.”  Luckily, it was finally time for me to home fifteen minutes after we got back.

On the way home, my check battery light came on along with the check engine light.  Then, I called my dad and talked to him.  He tried to guilt me about not seeing him, but I turned it back on him complaining that he didn’t call to tell me what was going on even though he called both boys.  It at least shut him up so I wasn’t getting the, “Don’t worry about me.  I just want to die.” surmon.

I called TBF and whined to him about the day.  He said, “Well, I’m making chicken fried steak for dinner….”  =)  He did, along with home made mashed potatos and gravy….and it was very good.  Afterwards, he watched movies with me and didn’t even make fun of me when I cried during Easy A (which I liked btw - and it wasn’t sad for those of you wondering.  I was just an emotional wreck by the end of the day.)

All in all, it turned out well for a bad day….but I still don’t want to do it again.

Happy Easter!

Filed under: Family Funhouse — Naye @ 9:13 pm

Yesterday, I was at my sister’s when TBF called and said, “We have a water leak.  Where’s the cut off???”  I told him and hurried home to find him running up and down the drive with different tools trying to find the right one to cut the water off…lol  When I walked in the house, I heard water beating against the wall behind the shower in E’s bathroom.  We got the water cut off, but there was water was all over the bathroom floor,  easing into the spare bedroom, and coming into the living room too.  There was a puddle coming out from under the house also.

Ethan said, “What’s the pipe coming onto the roof of the house.”  Then it clicks.  It was an exahust pipe.  E had taken it out, dropped it back in, and busted the pipe.  We went and took the wall down and sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.  I called my mom, but she wasn’t home.  She said to call my brother-in-law.  I called him and my neice answered, “Actually, he’s not here right now Aunt Naye Naye.”  I then called my other brother-in-law and he came over.  With spare parts his father had laying around, they were able to fix the pipe.  =)

After being up later the night before, we got up this morning and drove an hour and a half to have Easter lunch with TBF’s family.  After that, we drove back to have Easter Supper with my family.  All in all, it was a nice day.  The pluming’s held, the family was enjoyable and the food was great.  I will be sorry to see Vanessa leave to go back home, but that’s okay.
